Parents – 5 signs to know dehydration in toddlers

The weather is getting warmer by the day, which means more sweating for the kids outdoors. More activity means more water loss and smaller bodies mean smaller water reserves too. So, keep your kiddos hydrated with these 5 things and you should be fine.

If, your child has been vomiting, has been to the washroom several times or not having enough liquids, they might dehydrate even faster. Watch out for these signs 5 red flags to watch out for this summer:

  •  Decrease in the frequency of urination (< 1/5-6 hrs) or Darker urine
  •  Dry or parched mouth and lips
  •  Cold or dry skin
  •  Reduced activity levels or extreme fussiness
  • No tears when crying

Give your toddler Pedialyte or something similar. Water in not enough to rehydrate because it lacks the electrolytes that have been lost thereby causing dehydration.

Do not give too much in one go, as that might add to the vomiting. Give a few sips every 5-10 minutes until, they feel better. Then increase the quantity and spread out to say half an hour gaps, continue until the urine starts getting clearer.

In this course, don’t forget your liquid intake for long hours. Because adults get dehydrated too.
Stay hydrated, stay happy.
